Children of Light, Not

the Night

Ye are all the children of light, and the

children of the day (1Thessalonians 5:5)

We are either children of light or children of the night, or as someone says, we are either Saints or Aints. As such, children of light have a huge advantage which must not be compromised.

Walk

If we have been translated from the Kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Christ- Colossians 1:12 13, it behoves us to walk as children of light-Ephesians 5:8. According to Paul, we should not be ignorant about the status of Christians who have passed on- 1Thessalonians 4:13. We should not be ignorant that Jesus is returning as a thief in the night-1Thessalonians 4:14 -5:2. Christians are not in darkness, hence should not be caught off guard-1Thessalonians 5:4.

Wake

It is unfortunate that some believers behave as though they are asleep. To these, Paul emphatically declares that we are children of light and of the day, not of the night or darkness-1Thessalonians 5:5. Therefore let us not sleep as others but let us watch and be sober-1Thessalonians 5:6. Because we are of the light, we cannot afford to sleep or be intoxicated-1Thessalonians 5:7. Peter reminds us to be vigilant and sober because the Devil is seeking whom he may devour-1Peter 5:8.

Work

If you are asleep or drunk, you cannot work. Yet Christians ought to be hard fighting soldiers on the battlefield. We must put on the breastplate of faith and love, the helmet of salvation-1Thessalonians 5:8, our feet shod with the gospel of peace and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God-Ephesians 6:14-17. To those who are still asleep, wake up and work-1Thessalonians 4:11.
