I Can See Clearly Now

He Was Restored And Saw Every Man Clearly (Mark 8:25)

A fitting designation for the year 2020, is the Year of Vision. In a physical sense we all would like to have 20/20 vision, so we should strive for the same in a spiritual sense. Today we examine the encounter of Jesus and a man who was visually impaired.

Visit

As Jesus entered Bethsaida, his disciples brought a blind man to him with the intention that Jesus would touch him-Mark 8:22. They knew that a touch from Jesus would change the situation of the blind man. Earlier, he had touched the deaf and the dumb-Mark 7:31-35, and later he would touch a boy possessed by demons-Mark 9:20-27. Now, Jesus was entrusted with the task of giving sight to the blind.

Vision

At first it appeared as though the miracle failed. Jesus had spit on the blind’s man eyes and touched him. He then asked him if he could see, to which the man replied, I see men like trees, walking-Mark 8:23, 24. Obviously, when men appear to look like trees, the vision is not good. How good is your vision? Can you see the needs of the poor? 1John 3:17. Can you see the need for salvation? Acts 8:30-35. If Satan blinds your eyes, you will not see-2 Corinthians 4:4.

Victory

According to Mark, Jesus touched the blind man a second time. Then he could see clearly- Mark 8:25. Doubtless, Jesus could have healed the blind with one touch-Matthew 9:27-30, John 9:1-7. In this encounter, Jesus gave the blind man a second touch. One lesson we can draw from this is, victory does not always come in an instance. Lord give us vision-Proverbs 29:18.
